New release: Introducing Liam Stewart and the first single, Bird Of Prey

“Bird Of Prey” is your first taste of what Liam Stewart and blocSonic have in store for you with the release of the album “Sixteen Words” on November 30th. If you dig indie-pop music packed with lush melodies, moody vocals and a rock edge then you definitely need to check the album when it drops! Liam’s sound lies somewhere between Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd & 90s brit-pop… a sound that’s been forged from years of music-making that dates back to the 80s post punk outfit, Creatures of Habit. This is seriously infectious pop music… not to be missed!

As with all of our previous maxBloc singles, “Bird Of Read more …

PublicSpaces Lab “The Future Lab” Call for Entries

On April 7, 2010 PublicSpaces Lab will be 3 years old. It will also be when we are doing our 20th release, one that we want it to be a celebration of this netlabel, of our artists but also a celebration of the future:

The future of this netlabel, the future of netaudio, the future of music.

They're launching a Call for Entries for PS020 “The Future Lab”. Their idea for this compilation is to have 20 original tracks from 20 different artists. They've sent personal invitations to 10 of those artists (mainly artists that have already released with them) and they will, until March 15th, be accepting submissions for PS020 to select another 10 to be a part of this compilation.

Read the interview with yours truly about blocSonic

The fine folks at Kilted Chaos came to me to learn a bit more about netlabels, blocSonic, what we are and what we've got planned.

Do give the interview a read, if you've got a moment.

What are your favorite music magazines?

I just got finished reading Phlow Magazine’s excellent interview with the editor of German magazine Beat, Thomas Raukamp. It got me thinking about what I do to promote blocSonic releases. Thomas is quite correct when he states the following:

…most people who run a netlabel forget that their work should start right there where the average netlabel head thinks it stops, they forget to promote their artists’ work. Putting a release on a website and getting out some notes about it within the scene’s blogs and forums or on Twitter and Facebook should be just the beginning of getting the word out.

I do go out of my way to promote our releases Read more …

Welcome to “The Catastrophic Connection”

Back in February, Joey Ripps approached me about releasing one of his projects through blocSonic. One of the projects, a collaboration with 13aDLucK produced by Catastrophe, turned out to be quite a strong set. After hearing the drafts Ripps sent, blocSonic was officially down for a release! What you’re about to listen to is a fantastic collection of raw, NYC style, boom-bap hip-hop. It’s packed with smooth soul-drenched beats, classic B-Boy braggadocio and introspective rhymes. Luck & Ripps’ vocal styles are both quite compatible, so their collaboration on this project feels natural and unforced. Catastrophe’s production Read more …
