Friends or Whatever is Mark Herbkersman, a guitarist and producer from Richmond, Virginia. He writes vibrant, noisy pop songs that blend quickfire rock sensibilities with pulses of shimmering electronica. Like a hybrid of Guided by Voices and The Postal Service, the songs are erratic, enigmatic, and melancholic, but Herbkersman's plaintive vocals convey in them a hope still unbroken by the weight of the world.
