Announcing #projectEqualize

Imagine a social-networking site that caters, specifically, to the Creative Commons community. One which only allows you to share Creative Commons licensed content… books, images, videos, audio, games… free or commercial. A centralized location for creators to share with like-minded individuals.

All social networks contain a certain amount of noise that you need to sift through, however, by making a strictly Creative Commons oriented network, a very significant portion of the global social noise is filtered out, leaving you with only content that is sharable… or remixable… or just plain human friendly. We love to share what we love… it’s time we create an infrastructure that allows us to do just that. An infrastructure that cuts out the mega-corporate attitudes regarding copyright and sharing. An infrastructure that also utilizes the APIs of well-known Creative Commons oriented community sites like Free Music Archive, Jamendo & ccMixter to help tie the existing community together.

In addition to providing a platform for sharing what you create or love… discovery tools will be built into the site… with search that sifts through all the shared CC licensed content and allows creators to find exactly the type of licensed content needed. If you need a remixable, rewritable, derivative friendly book, photo, video, song, game or whatever… it’s at your fingertips. The project will also feature extensive charting capabilities… as Billboard does for mainstream music… all content types will have their own weekly… monthly… yearly charts gauging the popularity of shared content. There’s currently nothing like this for the truly independent creators… and there’s a huge need for discoverability, in the CC community. There’s a vaccuum, I want to fill it.

I look at this project as providing an infrastructure for CC licensed content sharing and discoverability… it's time we forget competing with mega-corporations on an unequal playing field. Let’s equalize things a bit. Corporate greed is increasingly making it more difficult for independent creators to earn a living and share their creations. Soon it may be impossible. Let’s not wait around for that to happen.

This is something I originally intended to be more music oriented and part of blocSonic, but I feel it needs to encompass multiple data types and as such, be it’s own entity. I’m a GRAPHIC DESIGNER who can program, but that is not the same as a programmer who PROGRAMS or a DB administrator who KNOWS DATABASES… I feel that it’s time that I put this public call out to you to pull together a small, talented team of experts who can truly make this project happen.

I’m looking for individuals to build this with… contact me via the blocSonic contact form with an informal CV, if you’re interested. Come… be part of that thing that comes from left-field and shakes things up. I’m looking for a project manager, frontend/backend programmers, DB administrator and a marketing & promotion writer. If you have an unlisted skill set that you feel may be beneficial for a project such as this, then please let me know.

Peace
